Remember the old wood-burning stoves that got so hot you had to open the windows? Not so with today’s wood stoves. An automatic thermostat is a standard feature on most of the models on this page. That means you control the temperature.
Vermont Castings wood stoves have the same fine workmanship that you’ll find in all their products. They know you want more than just a utilitarian heater in your home—you want good looks, too. What’s more, they aren't messy like the old wood stoves. They have a nifty swing-out ash pan—no shovel necessary—that keeps your hearth clean.
How about this: You load the wood from the top. No sparks flying out the door; just lift the handle on the cooking griddle and in go your logs.
And yes, you can cook on them. Make sure you use cast-iron cookware; otherwise, your food will scorch. You can also use a cast-iron trivet to elevate your cookware above the griddle for slower cooking.
Want to view the fire with the door open? Add a sparkscreen. Another handy feature is warming shelves. Dry your mittens or warm your bread.
Dutchwest wood stoves are crafted from plate steel and have an arched cast-iron door with ceramic glass. With a pull out ash drawer for easy clean-up and top air guide to improve heat distribution, you’ll get more heat from less wood.
Available in three sizes, these stoves heat from 1,000 to 2,000 square feet, with efficiency rates of 63% to 70%. Add the optional blower to increase circulation and warmth.
